Is it just too different?
In the Movie "Romeo and Juliet" starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, there are some clear changes made compared to the original book written by William Shakespeare. The movie was really interesting but it had lots of changes which caused me to question my point of view to the movie. I liked the movie because it was really interesting and it showed a really creative perspective created by the director and producer because they changed the setting and the time period completely. I think that the movie is really worth it to to watch at least once to compare with the original book. Basically, in my point if view, I really liked the movie though it is different in multiple ways, but its really worth it to watch and analyze.
Thought the movie is fun to watch, it is really complex to analyze. From my personal point of view, there is only one thing that I did not liked about the movie, which is the modern presentation in which is shown. Romeo and Juliet has always been a really classy play and it has been really important to the history of literature. The movie was really interesting and it showed a different point of view towards the story because it showed how the story could change from the time it was written to the actual time period. I liked the way that the director and the producer use their imagination to recreate the movie. What I did not liked was that the book is supposed to be a really classy and elegant story based on the language and setting used, and I think that this is lost when its turned into the movie because it looses all the romantic perspective of the setting in Italy and it looses most of the clothes and objects that the people use un the book.
When it comes to compare and contrast the movie and the book, there is some changes that were made but the most important one was the time period it is shown in. First of all, I will compare the characters. In the book, the characters were shown really classy and elegant while in the movie, thought the characters talk in the same antique way, they dress and act in a more silly and funny way. There were multiple additions and deletions from the book to the movie. In the book, Romeo and Juliet have an opportunity to talk before they both die and people used swords in fights while in the movie, people had fights with guns, characters acted funny and used cars, and one of the most important details, there was not much drama shown as in the book. One of the most shown changes was the fact that the setting was completely changed because the setting in the book was Verona that represented the romanticism and in the movie, the setting is not clearly shown and described, but is defenetly not Verona because is shows a really open minded place in the world. As last but not least, the relationship between the characters have some differences. Basically, Romeo and Juliet have the same loving relationship but they show more dialogue in the book, and instead in the movie, Juliet and the nurse show a more friendly relationship.
This movie is really interesting because it shows a different perspective of the book and it can get a little confusing based on all the multiple changes. I would recommend this movie to the people who like to compare and contrast multiple details about the time period and like to be really observative. Before watching the movie, I recommend people to read the book first because it demonstrates the clear meaning of Romeo and Juliet. I would not recommend this movie to the people who like to keep things in their original format because in my opinion, the movie could be considered an offense to the book because of all the changes. Some people can consider this movie an offense because it changes some of the most important details and it looses most of its classy expressions. Personally, I liked the movie because when I watched it, I got to analyze it and compare and contrast it with the book.
As I said in my thesis statement, I really liked the movie because of all of the changes made to it. Though some people might not like it, it is really worth it to watch at least once, to analyze and see all the creativity and thought that was put into building the movie. There are many points of view about the movie, some bad and some good, which is why I recommend people into watching the movie, for them to see for themselves if the movie is good enough. In conclusion, I recommend the movie because it can lead to demonstrate a really different perspective of the antique and important play, Romeo and Juliet.
